Considerations for different printing techniques
Pad print
Pad printing means that the logo is etched onto a cliché (printing plate). A silicone pad then fetches the color from the cliché and transfer it to the surface of the product. The printing surface varies depending on the shape the mug has and requires a certain distance to the edges and ear. The method makes it possible to print CMYK printing (image printing).
Advantages of pad printing:
- Higher appearance quality.
- The color reproduction follows the PMS map.
Suggested print placements:
Things to keep in mind when applying pads:
Pad print can withstand hundreds of machine washes without losing quality but does not last for industrial dishwashers used in restaurant kitchens.
PANTONE PMS
We cannot guarantee exact PMS color at the time of printing. Clear colors such as yellow, red, orange, light blue, white and lime, which are to be printed on a dark background, need to be printed with a white base plate to achieve a good result. If you only order single-colour printing on a dark background, we will not accept any complaints about that work.
The same applies to white or yellow on a red background, as well as yellow on a blue background.
Extra charge applies for double printing.
Transfer printing
Transfer involves printing the logo on a sticker which is then mounted on the product and then fired at 800°C. This causes the colors to be encapsulated in the glaze of the product and makes the print extra durable. The method is perfect for porcelain that is to be washed in an industrial dishwasher and used in a restaurant. The method is also well suited for more advanced prints.
Advantages of transfer printing:
- Greater printing area - Printing around the mug - Printing on the ear
- Print on the inside - Print on plates and dishes - Name print
Suggested print placements:
Considerations for transfer printing:
Ceramic paints that can withstand the temperature of the transfer print in the oven do not match the PMS map. Therefore, we cannot guarantee 100% reproduction (the most difficult colors often contains magenta). When the logo is burned into the glaze on the mug, the logo becomes matte and transparent. This makes light print on dark substrate will not be opaque.
Since the decals are assembled by hand, each mug differs in appearance in terms of placement. We cannot guarantee that each logo will be mounted straight and in the same position.
